On Tuesday 3 November, Aspire joined Purple Tuesday at Westgate Oxford, hosted by Landsec.
Purple Tuesday is an awareness day that encourages organisations to make their services more accessible and inclusive for disabled people, their families and carers. Around 1 in 5 potential UK customers has a disability, so it matters.
Local and national charities each had a table, and so did we: Parry, our Senior Communications Officer, and Marc, our Head of Fundraising, ran the Aspire table.
We brought copies of our impact report to hand out, and it was a great way to start conversations. As one of Oxfordshire’s long-standing local charities, it was good to be there alongside Westgate, who have been great partners to Aspire.

We were delighted to meet the new Lord Mayor of Oxford, Councillor Chewe Munkonge. He already knew all about Aspire and our work, and his message to us was simple:
keep doing what you’re doing.
Throughout the day, members of the public stopped by our table. Some had questions about our services because they were looking for support themselves, some wanted to volunteer, and others were simply curious about what’s happening in their community. It was a reminder of how much these conversations matter.

The stars of the day were two guide dogs from Guide Dogs, who drew a crowd of people keen to say hello and give them a pat.
Thank you to Landsec and the Westgate team for hosting, to the Lord Mayor for his time, and to everyone who came to say hello.
